Girls would probably like the novel a little more since there is a strong female heroine with love interests, but that shouldn’t discourage any boys who are interested in the novel or think it’s not good.

Dystopian society, powers, division in the society, inequality

I gave this book five stars because it was easy to relate to the character and get drawn into the book. It was exciting no matter what was happening. The characters were developed very well through the novel and twists and turns were presented throughout when least expected and each one was a shock to find out.

In the kingdom of Norta, there is a division between those with red blood, and those with silver. The silver blooded are the elite and as a result of their silver blood, they have powers ranging from mind control to strength. Red blooded civilians are drafted into the war at 18 if they are not learning a specific talent/trade/career. Mare Barrow’s draft is approaching as she pickpockets to provide for her family while her sister learns a trade and her three brothers fight in the war. Her best friend, Kilorn, helps. One night, she meets a stranger who gets her a job. One at the palace. Once there, she discovers that she has powers. And once the royal family finds this out, they keep her there in order to figure out why. And she is thrown into a world of silver faces, magnificent gowns, jewels, powers, and lies. What she uncover about herself and the rest of the kingdom?
