Technology

Technology at MCPS has improved drastically within these last few years. We have been introduced to one of the most helpful things in the classroom within the past decade, the Promethean Board. This is a board that either has a Promethean Pen, or it could even come as a touch screen board. This board is extremely helpful for teachers to present their daily power points. This Promethean Board hooks up to the teacher’s, which allows teachers to present to the class without having to sit down and change slides on the computer. Teachers can also edit whatever they want very easily. Annotating texts can be done by just clicking the pen, or highlighter tool and just drawing on it.

The next technological advance MCPS has seen within these past 5 years, is chromebooks. These are laptops, that come at fairly low prices, (considering they are laptops) around $200 for a laptop. MCPS has chromebooks in many classrooms across the whole county. Students can use these chromebooks for typing essays, making powerpoints, and anything else that a teacher would need their students to work on. In my opinion, I think the greatest feature in the chromebook is the unavailability to download things off the internet. I find this helpful, because downloading materials off the internet can often lead to a virus invasion. Because chromebooks block downloading things off the internet, it makes it near impossible to attract viruses.
