Music as a Teen

Music as a Teen

Michael Yuille

It’s a fair assumption to say that music is one of the most influential things in the world. Most humans listen to music but the genre changes from person to person. For me I prefer country, probably the most ragged on genre by the teenage population; for Jon Hartig, he prefers trap music, a more popular choice by the average teenager. For anyone around the age of 18-24 concerts are a big part of social life. I was able to poll a couple people about their choice of music.

Emmy Abdullah, a senior, says she loves “flipping on 99.5 in the car and jamming out to the top 40 pop songs.” She is an average teenage at Northwest. She has said that it makes it simple for her to listen to pop because it is accessible at all times and isn’t hard to find new music.

Jon Hartig, the man you see in the hallways who always has an earphone in his ear, says he “cranks to trap music when he’s feeling the vibes.” Trap music is a variation of rap music that is from less popular artist usually and is a fast rap with a lot of focus on the background music.

Overall, everyone has a different preference for music but pop and rap were generally the most popular at Northwest when asked. Music brings a lot of culture to the teenage population and Northwest has a lot of variation when it comes to music.
