Doesn’t each individual culture of the world amuse you with its diverse arrangements of belief, clothing, food, and overall visual through each culture’s developments? Well, culture is the shared values and beliefs maintained by many countries and communities across the globe, and to honor this diversity, Northwest High School brings together diversity night, on February 6th. This wide array of traditions and culture is brought together during this day!
On January 15th, we decided to interview the members of the leadership team for the upcoming event Diversity Night. The members of the leadership team are Indira, Meah Rose, Rokaya, and Ashely. We asked them a couple of questions and they gave us very exciting answers. So, if you are curious as to what these girls had to say about Diversity Night, keep reading!
1. “What can we expect from Diversity Night?”
Indira & Rokaya:“The story of us,”
Indira: “There will be stands at different tables representing different cultures.”
2. “What would you tell the first-time participants about Diversity Night?”
Meah Rose:“Your culture will be presented, with stories shown. Be your own advocate. Bring your own voice to your own place.”
Ashley: ”You get to see from other cultures and know more from other countries!”
Seeing these responses shows you, the reader, how Diversity Night really is for everyone!
3. “What has been your favorite part about preparing for (or going to) Diversity Night so far?”
Indira: “The meetings, MSP, the building excitement and the energy. Being proud of our culture and seeing other schools coming to watch as well.”
4. “How much time does it take to get everything set up for the event?”
Rokaya: “It takes a ‘fair’ amount of time. But it’s all worth it in the end.”
“The Prep behind this meaningful and inclusive night is completely justified corresponding to how the set up will look overall!”
5. “Would you say Diversity Night is a memorable experience whether you’re participating in it or just an audience member?”
Rokaya: “It doesn’t matter if you’re a participant— or are helping out. It’s still memorable, considering the different cultures.”
Meah Rose: “Memorable; let your creativity flow!”
6. “How do you use your leadership skills to help out others who are a part of the event?”
Rokaya: “Bring the groups together, advertise, create community and vibe.”
Meah: “My relationships allow me to help others; I help other students get involved.”
7. What are you “excited” to see?
Rokaya: “The people, always hosts, all friends getting to know her culture.”
Ashley: “ I’m excited for performances, and to see the self expression.”
Meah: “The tables bringing food and an antique karaoke room.”
Indira: “Seeing what other people have planned, enjoy looking around at the entirety of the set up.”
These girls have prepped intricately to ensure a spontaneous night for the Northwest community. The students of Northwest come from many different backgrounds– and this night is an advantageous one to see them represented! Diversity in its own nature— is a beautiful thing, so come celebrate it to the fullest on this night! If you’d like to enjoy diversity night
