On December 25th, 2016, the movie Hidden Figures came out into theatres around the country. The movie takes place in the 1960’s and focuses on the lives of three African American women, Katherine, Dorothy, and Mary, fighting oppression. All three women are brilliant with numbers and get hired at NASA. The movie takes place during the Cold War and The United States is trying to beat Russia in the space race. The main character, Katherine, gets moved into a new position, working with the head of NASA but everyone judges her for being the only black woman. She experiences many forms of racism and discrimination during her time at NASA. The plot is very inspiring and takes the audience on an emotional journey about women trying to prove themselves. In the end, all three women excel in their positions and ultimately end racism within the NASA building.
