This weekend’s soccer matches were very interesting. There wasn’t really much to discuss in the premier league besides Manchester United’s less than convincing 2-1 victory over Chelsea. Losing this game sends Chelsea outside of the top four in fifth place just two points behind Tottenham. On sunday morning Arsenal F.C took on the current league Leaders Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley Stadium. What was set to be a very close and hard fought match proved to be quite the opposite. A very dominant performance from the cityzens saw them convincingly beat the gunners 3-0, on the scoresheet was the argentine striker Sergio Aguero who opened the scoresheet with a wonderful chip over David Ospina. We also saw the likes of David Silva and the captain himself Vincent Kompany pick up a goal to secure the victory. This win saw manager Pep Guardiola pick up his first piece of silverware as the Manager of Manchester City, with the premier league looking to be basically decided and going towards Manchester City and still being in the champions league could we see Pep’s team win the treble?

Moving on to La Liga, we saw the top four teams pull of good results from their respective matches. The league leaders F.C Barcelona showed their dominance in a 6-1 victory over Girona. This game was à brilliant showcase of the talent and attacking power Barcelona has at their disposal. Having Luis Suarez score 3 goals, Lionel Messi picked up two world class goals that continue to show his never ending magic, and Coutinho opened his La Liga goal scoring account with an amazing right footed shot just outside of the area. The two teams from Spain’s Capital, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid pulled off great results of their own. In Real Madrid’s very convincing 4-0 defeat over Dep. Alaves, Cristiano Ronaldo managed to grab himself a brace and decided to let his attacking teammate Benzema take à penalty since the french striker has been having à tough time finding the back of the net the last few games. On the other side of Madrid, Atletico Madrid showed what they were capable of winning 5-2 over à very difficult opponent in Sevilla.  Atletico Madrid showed just how fierce the striking partnership of Antoine Griezmann and Diego Costa can be with the prolific french striker picking up a wonderful hat-trick and his spanish partner picking up just one. This win tightens the gap between them and first place Barcelona by just 7 points.

Taking à trip to France, in the french league we saw league leaders and dominant force Paris Saint Germain convincingly beat Olympique Marseille in Le Classique 3-0. 2 of the three members of one of Europe’s fiercest attacking trio in Cavani, Mbappe and Neymar managed to get on the score sheet. The 18 year old french striker Kylian Mbappe and the Uruguayan striker and PSG all time leading goal scorer managed to get on the score sheet. While the brazilian superstar Neymar unfortunately towards the end of the match suffered what looked to be à very painful ankle injury which saw the brazilian winger be carried off the pitch via stretcher. Manager Unai Emery later informed that it is not as bad as it looks and that he believes that he may be available for the very important champions league home game against Real Madrid. They find themselves in à difficult position being 3-1, however they do have the benefit of playing at home at the Parc Des Princes which may just give the players that extra motivation to secure their spot in the next round of the champions league.
