This year, the president of Korea, Park Geun-Hye was caught giving confidential information to a cult for advice. Her main contact was with the cult leader’s daughter and her childhood friend, Choi Soon-Sil. Through their manipulation of the president, they were able to amass a large amount of wealth and information about Korean affairs and relations.

The public was outraged. People took to the internet, posting insulting and degrading comments about the president everywhere. Just last month, citizens of the capital Seoul gathered together in large protests to remove the president from rule. They chanted,“Park Geun-Hye, Step down” for hours on end. Propaganda from North Korea showed the president as a prostitute in chains, controlled by the cult leader and his daughter.

Recently, the South Korean National Assembly voted overwhelmingly to impeach the president and she now has a maximum of 180 days before she is officially impeached. In her stead, Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-Ahn will be acting as president and has promised to be as transparent as possible. Geun-Hye has accepted her impeachment and apologized for her carelessness as president.
