“We Reject The President Elect!”

Meredith Feys

One of the many chants used in protests spreading across the country. Since Donald Trump was announced the President Elect on November 9th, protests had sprouted in multiple cities across the country. Many protests can block roads and cause havoc in the lives of many and some have even turned violent and destructive such as the Richard Montgomery protest on November 16th where a young Trump supporter was attacked. Others include a protests turned into riots such as one in Portland, Oregon where multiple acts of vandalism came about after a protest turned into a violent riot.

These protests are not limited to adults of voting age. Across the nation, high schoolers have been showing their emotions with the results of the election as well, organizing protests and walk-outs. Some even going as far as to march to courthouses like the Richard Montgomery, marching straight to DC such as Blair, Northwood, and Einstein, or just marching down a highway like Northwest, Seneca Valley, and Quince Orchard. The largest high school protest in the area, was by far the Blair/Einstein/Northwood meetup. A Montgomery County spokeswoman said that, “more than 500 hundred students marched.”Students marching down the highway to DC

Celebrities are also joining in, Lady Gaga even starting her own protest outside of Trump Tower in New York on November 9th. (Shown above).

Leading up to the election, each presidential and vice presidential debate was filled with rumors and hate towards the other candidate, rather than plans each candidate had for the future of the country. These feelings even moved to Twitter and other social media platforms. As the election got nearer, emotions got higher, and each side became powerfully hateful towards the other. And do to the indecision of those not sure who was worse, the winner of the election wasn’t announced until 2:30 in the morning on November 9th.

Since Trump has been elected, protests have popped up and there has been no sign of them going away or stopping anytime soon, a petition has even been made with well over 2 million signatures so far to name Hillary Clinton instead of Donald Trump. This appears to be our most charged election yet.
