Boys Swimming Dives Into a New Year

“I believe that we will win!” The swim and dive team cheers echo across the pool deck at the Shriver Aquatic Center before their first scrimmage. The captains, Nick Fitzwilliam and Mac Adelman, are leading these cheers and encouraging their fellow teammates to support each other behind the starting blocks. Having lost virtually no seniors last year and gaining a few key freshman this year has put the team is in a great position to excel this season and place at the State Championship meet. The boys team is only one third of the size of the girls team, but thanks to key members the boys will be able to rival the success of the much larger girls team.

In the sport of swimming a large portion of the team trains outside of school on a club swim team. In this area there are numerous club swim teams and as a result the swimming in this area is highly competitive. The Northwest boys team, despite their small numbers, will be able to find success due to the number club swimmers they have who train all year long. In addition to senior captains, Nick and Mac, junior, Noah Garvey, will also be a large contributing member to the team. Additionally teammates Colby Chung, Sebastian Chang, Kevin Tat, freshman Joe Nonado, and diver Andrew Cole will be key players. All of these boys train up to eight times a week outside of school and as a result the team will be highly competitive this year. Despite the lack of depth within this team, key players for the boys who put in tremendous amounts of work, will carry the boys to a place at the State Meet.
