Sjogren’s Syndrome is a disorder in the immune system causing dry eyes and a dry mouth. The reason Jose chose this as his topic is because his “mom has this disease, and [he] wanted to find out how it affects her”. His project was very well made and he included a lot of information in both his junior year and senior year research binders. He started this project his junior year but “the bulk of [his] research was done in one semester with [his] ulysses class”.I learned that “a lot of people attribute [dry eyes] to environmental factors and usually don’t get diagnosed until their 40s or 50s”. This disorder can cause major sleep disturbances which can strongly affect how dry one’s mouth and eyes will be the next day.   Luckily, there are many treatment options for this, which Jose had presented on the table. There were eye drops as well as capsules that can be used to help with the dry eyes. There was also gum there, as people who have this disease can chew gum to lessen the effects of it. Jose also provided a survey for people who came to his booth to take based on their opinion of the disease.
