For years the Academy of Biotechnology has proven to be one of Northwest’s highly renowned Academies thought its many accomplishments. The Academy has provided interactive real world experiences for students. Developing relations with Biotech companies such as Academy cohort, Student Association, and Emergent BioSolutions that help its members to further their understanding of a variety of science careers by learning from people with a career in science.

Students have shown their Appreciation for this Academy, recognizing its benefits that allow ones “to participate in advanced science classes” reasons Julia Gall, a member and Senior at Northwest. This helps members to cultivate their interest in the advancement of society, as well as learning how they may be able to contribute. It is a great program to discover and gain experience of a variety of laboratory procedures and technology. In addition, AOB has assisted students to land an internship in the science field for their Senior Year.  Ali Nazari, a Senior member of AOB relates “I am thankful for the Academy of Biotechnology. With the help of this academy, I am currently enrolled in the internship program and have a high school internship at NIH.”

The Academy, no doubt, helps students to proactively pursue their future path in science. AOB provides college- level lab education in molecular biology, genetics, and biochemistry that can be applied to real life. In addition, In order to ensure members get the most out of the Academy,  there are requirements that include a number of science course credits fulfilled for each year.For example, in whatever either your Junior or Senior year you may take a double period science course, Molecular biotechnology, where you learn college- level lab science. Nicholas Nicholas, a Senior and enrolled in the course last year, convey that “my favorite lab was when we tested the effect of the ampicillin resistant gene in bacteria.”
