4SW

For students who are interested in writing songs about science then 4SW is the club for you. In 4SW you collaborate with other students to create science that help people learn and understand concepts related to science. The club meets every Thursday after school in Mr. Silber’s room. Mr. Silber is the main sponsor of the club who has a passion for writing and creating music and loves to share that with students who are interested in the same thing. Other teachers are sponsors as well and some of them sing in some songs. They like to write songs on science concepts that interest them. For some songs they create their own music and beat and for other songs they use beats from famous songs like Uptown Funk and Blank Space. The club has 3 recording studios so they can record multiple songs and work on videos at the same time. In an interview with Meredith Feys she mentions that, “it is a very friendly environment and you don’t get judged for anything.” No audition is needed and everyone is welcome. Each year the club participates in the Weather and Climate Contest where they write songs and create videos to raise awareness about climate change and pollution. Just last school year they got to participate in the Listen Carefully Contest where they won a contest for the school by creating a 30 second video about hearing loss.

To get more information about the club I interviewed Meredith Feys, a member since 9th grade. Meredith first heard of the club through her biology teacher who was Mr. Silber. She loves to sing and write songs so this club was perfect for her. The club was very welcoming to her and she has been able to have fun ever since. She mentioned that they have created songs about gravity, proteins, isotopes, and the periodic table. Many of their videos have been shown on JagTV to let students know about the club and show what they do. Meredith is one of the main singers in the club. She worked her way to that position by working hard in the club and giving her input on songs. Meredith and a couple of other students are set to perform at the Northwest Got Talent talent show on November 18th. So if you think this is the club for you then come to Mr. Silber’s room on Thursdays.
